Half-Baked!

Remember how I said that I really sucked at blogging? Well, sorry it's been pretty much a whole month without an update! Lots of exciting stuff though, including finding out what baby gummybear's gender was! I'll get to that in a minute for those of you who don't already know. For the most part, no super crazy symptoms, no super crazy cravings, and not as many headaches! Unfortunately, I do think I have pregnancy induced carpel tunnel (and my doc thinks so too) and it's really lame. Most mornings, I wake up with my arms somewhat tingly and partially numb, so I've been having to sleep with a wrist brace which seems to help a little. I have a hard time doing simple everyday things like blow-drying my hair, putting on my makeup, writing long paragraphs with a pen...it really sucks. I guess it happens because the carpel tunnel is already so narrow, that any sort of water retention (which preggo people get a lot of!) causes enough pressure to cause the lovely tingly numbness and pain. Fun! (not) Other than that and a little lower back pain, I feel great!

I started at my new branch last week, and I LOVE it! It's great to see my old customers, be in a cozy little branch, and my job keeps me nice and busy which makes the days go by fast. My new boss is awesome, my tellers are amazing, and I just love it there. Not to mention I get home in 2 minutes - literally!

Anyway, at 16 weeks, I had to take a 1 hour glucose test to test for gestational diabetes. We did this a little early (normally done at 24-28 weeks) because I was on metformin for PCOS before getting preggo, and because diabetes runs in the family. One hour after drinking a sugary drink that tasted like flat orange soda, they drew my blood. It came back slightly high, so I had to come back and do a 3 hour glucose test. Ugh, I was not happy! The cutoff was 140, and my number was 144! I was a little upset, but luckily I had a lot of friends that told me that they also failed the 1 hour test and went on to pass the 3 hour. So a couple days later, I took the dreaded 3 hour test where you get poked 4 times instead of once! Joy! And how fun was it sitting there watching movies on my iPad in incredibly uncomfortable hospital waiting chairs?! Luckily, Josh came and kept me company. Anyway, I am happy to say I passed the 3 hour test! So for now, my doctor is not considering me a diabetic. No special diets for me, but I'm definitely going to watch it a bit more carefully. Sorry chocolate chip cookies, we can only meet every once in a while now....

Okay, so at 18 weeks we had our anatomy scan. The doctor took a look at all of gummybear's organs, bone lengths, and overall health via ultrasound. We also found out that gummybear is a BABY GIRL! How exciting is that? Josh said that he secretly wanted a little princess, so I'm glad he's excited too. ;) Everything looked great, and baby looks to be about average in size. The only thing that the doctor mentioned was a small echogenic focus in her heart, which if our genetic defect tests had come back abnormal at 12 and 16 weeks, would be cause for little concern. Fortunately, everything came back normal in the previous weeks and the doctor mentioned that they typically go away, and are actually pretty common in general, and are even more common in people of asian descent. So, we'll probably have another ultrasound at 30 weeks to check that out again.

Now I'm 20 weeks and half-baked! If I thought I felt huge 4 weeks ago, I was totally kidding myself. And Josh likes to remind me that it's only going to get worse here on out. :) That's okay though, I can't wait to meet our little girl in another 20 weeks no matter how huge I get! It definitely feels much more real now, but such an exciting little adventure. Now it's time to decorate the nursery, buy some cute girly things, and get ready for baby girl! Here are some pictures, sorry I'm so behind, but enjoy!
